A dynamically fruit forward wine, the bouquet opens with bing cherry, red currant, elderberry, and raspberry compote. Bramble, all spice, and what can only be described as a warm, sunny California summer day (yes that has a smell, and it’s unmistakable) complement this wine nicely. The palate is rich and soft with supple 
tannins and a lingeringly long finish.

The Grenache grapes used to craft this wine were grown by Luis Zabala in the Arroyo Seco 
American Viticultural Area in Monterey County. Arroyo Seco is situated on the eastern downslope of the Santa Lucia Highlands, between the towns of Soledad and Greenfield. Despite its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, it is located in a Banana Belt where growing season temperatures are typically warmer than other coastal regions.

The hallmark of this appellation, without a doubt, is the soil profile which consists of enormous cobblestones formed over eons from the seasonal water flows through the Arroyo Seco from winter rains draining out of the Santa Lucia Highlands. These exceptionally well drained soils tame vine vigor, and ultimately produce smaller berry sizes and hence highly structured wines.

Destem to stainless steel tank  and macerate on the skins for 14 days before drain and press. Aged for 18 months in neutral barrels with racking only twice; once after alcoholic fermentation and once after malolactic fermentation.  91pts- Wine Enthusiast.
